Advent

     the period beginning four Sundays before Christmas and observed by some Christians as a season of prayer and fasting.

Angel

     a spiritual being superior to humans in power and intelligence; especially : one in the lowest rank in the celestial hierarchy.

Bethlehem

       city of ancient Palestine in Judea SW of Jerusalem.

chimney

     a vertical structure incorporated into a building and enclosing a flue or flues that carry off smoke; especially : the part of such a structure extending above a roof.

Christ

     the ideal truth that comes as a divine manifestation of God to destroy incarnate error.

Christian

     one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Christianity

     the religion derived from Jesus Christ, based on the Bible as sacred scripture, and professed by Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant bodies.

Christmas

    a Christian feast on December 25 or among some Eastern Orthodox Christians on January 7 that commemorates the birth of Christ and is usually observed as a legal holiday.

Christmas carol

       a song sung during the Christmas season.

Christmas Day

       the day on which Christmas is celebrated : December 25.

Christmas Eve

       the day before Christmas : December 24.

Christmas tree

       a usually evergreen tree decorated at Christmas.

Jesus

       the Jewish religious teacher whose life, death, and resurrection as reported by the Evangelists are the basis of the Christian message of salvation —called also Jesus Christ.

Joseph

       the husband of Mary the mother of Jesus according to the Gospel accounts.

magi

      plural form of “magus”. They are the traditionally three wise men from the East paying homage to the infant Jesus.

manger

       a trough or open box in a stable designed to hold feed or fodder for livestock.

Mary

    the mother of Jesus.

mistletoe

    a European semiparasitic green shrub (Viscum album of the family Loranthaceae, the mistletoe family) with thick leaves, small yellowish flowers, and waxy-white glutinous berries.

myrrh

    a yellowish-brown to reddish-brown aromatic gum resin with a bitter slightly pungent taste obtained from a tree (especially Commiphora abyssinica of the family Burseraceae) of eastern Africa and Arabia.

Nativity

       the birth of Jesus.

reindeer

     also known as caribou. It is a large type of deer that lives in northern parts of the world.

Santa Claus

     a plump white-bearded and red-suited old man in modern folklore who delivers presents to good children at Christmastime —called also Santa.

shepherd

       a person who tends sheep.

sleigh

     an open usually horse-drawn vehicle with runners for use on snow or ice.

star of Bethlehem

       a star which according to Christian tradition guided the Magi to the infant Jesus in Bethlehem.

white Christmas

    a Christmas when there is snow on the ground or when it is snowing.

Xmas

       abbreviation or informal term for Christmas.
