Another moment to celebrate the Russian Day at Genius English Proficiency Academy last March 15, 2017. The celebration was joined by our students in different countries, teachers, staff, and our general manager (Ms. Tatiana Sergeeva).

It covered many information about the country as of culture, economy, people, and many more. There are many games that were played with prizes to the winners. They played the famous game like “jumping rope” which was a Russian native game and the other one was a finding your partner by going around on the tunnel (two persons holding up high their hands and the person will enter inside the tunnel and touch someone to be his/her partner). There was also a belief in Russia where you jump over the firing wood which means you are driving away the bad spirit.

Trivia: Russia is the largest and longest country in the world. The total land area is about 6.5 million square miles. It is the ninth most populous in the world with over 144 million people. It has 9 time zones, and it has 200 nationalities. The capital of Russia is Moscow, which is one of the largest cities in the world. Beer was not considered an alcoholic beverage until 2013. There are 9 million more women than men in the country. Approximately, it has 42% men and 58% women. The literacy rate in the country is 99%.

The Russian staff (Dinara and Anna) discussed some interesting facts about Russia. They presented to us the culture, economy, and some famous people and destinations or the country.

They corrected some myths like: 1. Russia is the most alcoholic country in the world (correction: because it is not, because Moldova is most alcoholic country), 2. There are bears on the streets in Russia (correction: none, because the bears are mostly seen and used in circuses), 3. Which drink is most popular in Russia? (correction: others say, that it is “vodka”, but it is incorrect because “beer” is the most popular one).

Russian people (Alex and our general manager Miss Tatiana) answered all the questions about Russia.

There are also people who are famous in different aspects like Alexey Pajitnov, a video game designer and computer engineer, who developed the “Tetris” which is very popular until today. Alexander Popov, who invented the first telegraph. Sergey Brin, who is one of the founders of Google, which is now very popular browser in the world.

There are some celebrities also that are famous from Russia like David Duchovny, Natalie Portman, Steven Spielberg, Sean Penn, Milla Jovovich, Winona Ryder, Whoopy Goldberg, and many more.

After the games and very informative discussion, our Russian general manager prepared some Russian food and served to all students, teachers, and staff. It tasted so good and sweet.

We just want to thank all the students, teachers, staff, and to our general manager for this successful event. Thank you for your cooperation and effort guys! Great night everyone! 🙂
